Lower Your Risk Of Cancer Of The Bowel

Bowel cancer, is actually the general term for cancer that develops in the large intestine and is normally called rectal or colon cancer. You can however also get cancer in the small intestine, but this tends to be more rare. Colon cancer is an uncontrolled growth of cells that interrupt with the normal functioning of this system and can ultimately become fatal if left undiagnosed.

Today the risk of cancer of the bowel is on the rise and affects people from across the globe.  In 2008, it was stated that 1.23 million new cases of this cancer were diagnosed and 60% of these cases were in the developing world. (Globalcan 2008)

More people seem to be suffering from one condition or another associated with their digestive system and cancer is just one of them. However the fact the 60% of these cases are attributed to the developing world gives rise to the question whether the way we eat may impact our health. The availability and consumption of processed foods, chemicals used in processing, and poor dietary choices of the developing world has no doubt contributed to this situation. The SAD (Standard American Diet) has also been under criticism for its ability to deteriorate peoples health.

Fortunately, it is up to you to take steps to prevent disease through conscious dietary choices, and therefore reduce your chances of getting sick in the future.
